Works on: iPhone and iPad. Ages: 3 to 7. Needs: nothing else. No account, no Wi-Fi after install.
Getting started
- Open the app and add a child: a first name or initial, an age range, and the animal they pick.
- Choose a lesson length in Settings: 2, 5, or 10 minutes. Five is a good first pick.
- Tap your child's animal on the first screen. Today opens with a letter and its sound, a finger trace, and a word to drag across.
- Explore, lower on the Today screen, has Numbers, Colors, Time & Money, Build, Science, and games. The first activity of each is free.
- On Friday, the week's letters come back for a short review. A star is for trying.
The grown-up menu
Settings, profiles, printables, the unlock, and Help sit behind a simple grown-up check so a child can't wander into them. Tap Grown-ups in the corner and answer the check. Cancel leaves your child on the lesson. The first screen also has Parent and Teacher buttons, behind the same check, for progress and placement.
Buying and restoring
Is it a subscription?
No. The first two weeks of reading and the first activity of each Explore area are free for good, with no timer. One payment through the iOS App Store opens everything else, for every child in your family.
Why pay for it?
The one payment is how the app stays free of ads, tracking, and subscriptions. No ads, ever; nothing about your child leaves the device; every lesson works offline; and the unlock covers every child in your family through Family Sharing.
How do I unlock?
Open the grown-up menu and choose Full LittleNest. The price shown comes from the iOS App Store in your local currency. Purchases go through your Apple ID; the app never sees your card.
New phone or tablet?
Sign in with the same Apple ID, open the grown-up menu, choose Full LittleNest, and tap Restore purchase.
Family Sharing
The unlock supports Family Sharing. Turn on Family Sharing and purchase sharing in your Apple account, then tap Restore purchase on the other family members' devices.
Have a code from a school or partner?
Open the grown-up menu, choose Full LittleNest, and tap Have a code? The code is redeemed through Apple, and the discounted price shows before you confirm. Codes can't be combined.
Not right for your family?
Apple handles iOS App Store refunds. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund is given, the app goes back to the free weeks the next time it opens.
Sound
The app is silent on an iPhone
Check the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the phone. Recorded clips follow the Voice slider in the app's Settings, and the device's own voice follows the volume buttons.
Quieting the taps
Open Settings and turn Tap sounds & buzz off. Dragging across a word stays quiet either way.
Offline and travel
The narrator's voice and every lesson are installed with the app. Before a flight, open Offline in the grown-up menu to double-check that everything is ready. A purchase or a restore is the one step that needs an internet connection, because it goes through Apple.
Profiles and progress
More than one child
Add a profile for each child in the grown-up menu. Each keeps their own animal, stars, stickers, and place in the lessons. The unlock covers all of them.
Changing the pace
Tap Teacher on the first screen, pass the check, and you can move a child forward or back on the word ladder and the reading calendar, so an older child who already knows their letters can skip ahead.
Seeing progress
Open the grown-up menu and choose Progress: lessons finished this week, the days they practiced, and the sounds they know from the Friday sound game. It shows what they finished, never a score.
Sharing progress with a teacher
Teachers and families swap short codes instead of accounts. The setup guide shows where to type each one.
Deleting a profile or your data
Everything the app keeps is on your device. To remove one child, open Profiles in the grown-up menu and delete that profile. To remove everything, delete the app. See the privacy policy for what the app stores.
Something not working?
Email hello@littlenestlearning.app with your device (for example “iPad, 9th generation”), the iOS version, and what happened. Please don't include your child's full name; a first name or initial is all the app uses too.
